What role did ‘geography’ play in the story of the Maori and the Moriori?

It's about 2 groups that split up. Then like 100 years later they see each others and fight. They didn't know that they were really were fighting there ansesters. The moriori have a bigger army and win the battle. So yeah thats what roll they played.

Thanks for posting over the break! A couple quick points, though. First, I'm not really sure you addressed the question. How did "geography" come into play? What about the size of the islands? The climates? How easily the land could be farmed? What size population the respective lands could support? Etc.

Also, in this particular instance the Maori had more people. But they chose not to fight until too late, at which point - yes - the moriori outnumbered them.
